Making a Passive Income

Many people dream of having an extra income every month that they can use to pay the bills or help with day to day living costs, but they can often be limited to how much time they have every week. However, provided you are willing to put in the extra time in to begin with, then as detailed below there are many ways of earning a passive income.

Article Writing

There are numerous sites that allow you to earn extra money from home every month writing. The money will usually come from ad revenues, or in some cases, you can earn from affiliate earnings, which is often the preferred method.

Some sites to consider include Hubpages or Zujava, which allows people to earn from advertising commissions.

Sell your Designs

Another way to make a passive income is by selling your designs online. Sites like Cafepress and Zazzle pay a commission for every sale that you make, and with enough products/designs, you can do well. Try and sell with the seasons and keep up with current trends to maximise your earning potential.

Sell your Pictures

Another option is to sell your pictures. Sites like Shutterstock and Fotolia pay a commission on each image that you sell through their sites.

Write a Course

There are numerous sites where people can make money selling courses; Udemy is perhaps one the of the best known. Do some research to find out what sells.

Earn Extra Money from Mystery Shopping

Does getting paid to shop sound like a dream come true? Well, it could be a reality for many people, although it is not as easy as some people might claim.
The fact is companies need feedback and they will often rely on mystery shoppers to provide that feedback. Companies want to know if their staff are respectful, or if they are impolite, they want to know that their staff are following correct guidelines and that they are knowledgeable about the products. The company will also want to know that the premises is clean, tidy and welcoming, and they'll want to know all of that because competition is tough these days and their businesses depend on it.
How many times have you walked out of a shop and told yourself "I won't go there again?" Most of us have done, and mystery shopping provides the opportunity to change that - and get paid for it.
As I said at the start of the article, you can get paid to shop, but you have to expect to do something in return for it. The first step is to apply to the many mystery shopping companies online. Perhaps choose five -ten of them as you'll get regular work from some of them and once off projects or the occasional project from some of the others.
Fill out the applications and complete the training, if required, and then wait for the offers of work to come through.
From experience I can tell you that you are likely to be asked to go out for meals, go to the bank or call the bank, buy a pair of shoes, enquire about a holiday, make calls to utility companies, go to the hairdressers, spend an afternoon drinking coffee, eating pizza and going to the supermarket, and you 'll get paid, but here's the catch: The instructions must be followed right down to the last detail or you risk not getting paid at all, so always follow the instructions carefully and don't be tempted to half do a job.
As well as getting a fee, you'll also get a budget, which is another good reason to follow the instructions, or you'll end up spending money that might not be refunded if you haven't carried out the assignment correctly. So far I have had free haircuts, free meals, free handbags, cosmetics and gadgets.
I've also been paid to phone my bank or visit it, and since I had to phone them and visit them anyway, that wasn't a problem. I was even paid to visit my local supermarket and given a £10 budget to buy what I wanted. Mystery shopping really does pay.
In case you are wondering how much you can make, then don't get too carried away. You are unlikely to earn enough to replace a full time income, but if extra cash is what you need, with a few free meals and supermarket shops covered, then mystery shopping might just be for you.
Short, straight forward assignments can pay £4-5, and this will typically involve a phone call and an assessment to fill out afterwards. Other visits can pay £30-50, sometimes more, while other assignments pay £15-25.
To maximise income, sign up with more than one company, try and choose assignments that are in the same location to save time, and remember to keep things like bus tickets to claim back bus fares if you are dependent on bus travel. Also, make sure you claim your mileage allowance; some companies pay for sundries such as the cost of printing off assignments, so claim the allowable amount for that back as well.

Make extra money this new year

The new year is often a time when people struggle to make ends meet yet many people will be unaware of the world of opportunities that can be accessed by using the Internet. This article details five methods that can boost the monthly income and give people some breathing space financially.
Surveys
While surveys won't make people rich, they are a good way of earning some additional income. When choosing a company find one that has good reviews and that is well-established.
Ideally, it is best to look out for companies that have a no minimum or low minimum payout level as otherwise it can be difficult to make enough money to even reach the payout.
Also look out for companies that pay in Amazon vouchers. This might not seem ideal for some people but as Amazon now sell household goods and pet food and pet care items, the vouchers are useful for covering the cost of items you'd usually have to pay for, and the vouchers are great for using as presents or buying gifts with as well.
Mystery Shopping
Just about everyone goes to the supermarket, the bank or for the occasional meal out so why not get paid for it? People can't expect to make a fortune with this opportunity as the work is offered depending on a person's  profile and can be inconsistent. However, even when work isn't coming in thick and fast, it is easy to make an extra £50 a month.
Opportunities include visits to hairdressers, supermarkets, banks, fast food chains, pubs etc. Mystery shoppers often get a budget, which means provided that your assignment is carried out properly, you can get your meals, haircuts and supermarkets bills covered.
Market Research
It might not be a lot of people's idea of fun, but it can pay an extra £30 - £50 a day. You'll need a car, a mobile, a laptop, and a thick skin, but it is a good way of earning some extra cash.
Forums
People can get paid for contributing to forums. While it is unlikely you'll earn enough to pay the mortgage, you could  eventually earn enough to cover a couple of direct debits a month or even the food bill, if you work hard at it.
Focus Groups
Many companies require feedback on their products before they are made available for sale and they'll often get feedback by holding focus groups. You'll need a car and be prepared to travel to venues, however, some focus groups are held online.
Participants can expect to earn £30 £100 for a few hours' contribution.

Paid Article Writing

There are a number of article writing sites, and Expertscolumn have been going strong for some time now.

They have proven themselves to be honest and they do whatever they can to help writers.  They also offer advice on effectively marketing articles, something which is lacking on a lot of sites.

Payments are made once you've reached $5 and are made via PayPal or Moneybookers.  My payment request was completed with a few days of making it.

Etsy

If you make your own products or create your own designs then Etsy is the site for you.  The site offers an affordable way of allowing people to sell their hand made craft items and designs online.

I've only recently started and have yet to add any items to my store but it seems to me a much more targeted way of selling your items.

People come to Etsy to look for unique, hand crafted items which they won't find anywhere else.  I've found items like this are less well suited to auction sites and I think Etsy is an ideal platform for selling your craft and design items.

For further information on selling your goods, you can visit: http://expertscolumn.com/content/setting-store-etsy for more details.

GAPbuster -Mystery Shopping

A while ago I used to complete mystery shopping work for Gapbuster.  The work can be irregular but the pay works out quite good, especially if you combine it with other mystery shopping tasks in the same area.

They offer a lot of retail visits and visits to fast food chains and restaurants, if I remember correctly, and when I was working for them pay started at £4.00 per assignment and also included a budget for paying for items.

GAPbuster is the world's largest mystery shopping company and have more than 200,000 registered shoppers.

You can find an application form here.

Get paid for surveys

I've joined many different survey companies in the past and the results are mixed.  Some have a low pay out and are a good way to earn some extra money while others either have high pay outs, the surveys aren't regular enough, or there are other issues.

Don't believe claims that you can get rich or make a full time income completing surveys - you can't. Surveys are too time consuming and the rewards too small for that but they do make an additional income.

I won't detail the sites I use because they might not suit other people but I thought I'd share the details of Crowdology as they look pretty good.

Crowdology are a UK-based survey company.  They offer a £4.00 pay out level and payments are made via PayPal.  Surveys pay from 50p - £10.00 and if you don't qualify for a survey then you'll be entered into a prize draw.
